Connections with Twitter and the Christchurch earthquake

1.       In what ways did Twitter help people in Christchurch? It allowed people stuck in rubble to communicate with people outside and get lifesaving advice.
2.       Quote examples of Tweets that show the different uses. We are now accepting donations for New Zealand. Please give to help the Red Cross respond in Christchurch” This was given with a link on Twitter which allows people to donate online.
3.       How do people use the Twitter Functions? While they were stuck under all the rubble, the used their mobile phones to get onto Twitter and tweet for help and advice. The advice they received was quite often lifesaving.
4.       Why is Twitter good in a Crisis? Because when someone in trouble and they can’t make a call or let their family know that their OK, they can then post something on Twitter for everyone to see.
5.       Compare it with Facebook. On Facebook, you have to be a member and be friends with the person to view their post, when on Twitter you can just jump on the website and view their post without being a member of Twitter.

Twitter didn’t just save lives in the Christchurch earthquake; it also saved foods and other good from going to waste. There was a man who had a freezer with a lot of meat in it and the freezer lost power. This meant that the meat was going to go bad. But instead of having to throw all the meat away an waste it, he invited everyone over for a BBQ through Twitter. So if it wasn’t for Twitter, all that meat would have gone to waste.
